Sephiroth’s Masamune-You Can Own The Fantasy
Sephiroth’s Masamune is a ridiculously long Japanese sword that is 68 inches long. It is a hell of a weapon for any man, for a blade of such a length would be hard to handle by any standards. It’s too bad that no one can wield it like the legendary Soldier, but the good news is replicas of Masamune is available world wide and you too can get your hands on one.
Wielding the Masamune would be extremely difficult, considering the length of the blade, it take skills to block efficiently and in quick time. Attacks may become weak because the force from your arm is spread across a larger area ( the looooong blade). Therefore it will take great upper body strength, good swordplay skills, and ample experience to wield the Masamune well. In any case, you will enjoy using this monster of a weapon in sparring sessions.
The name Masamune belonged to a legendary swordsmith, who was said to have the ability to make fantastic swords. His conceited apprentice, Muramasa, challenged his master to a competition to see who could make a stronger sword.
The two swordsmith then made their weapons, and then held them into a river. Muramasa’ s sword was so sharp that it cut anything that floated by, including dead leaves, fish and whatever that was floating on the river. A fine miracle was said to have happened. Masamune’s sword did not cut anything, even though things floated around it. Muramasa was proud of his sword and declared himself winner.
A monk came to see what has happened and gave his comments. He said that Muramasa’ s sword was a fine art by all aspects but it was evil and blood thirsty and would cut whatever it may come across. He then praised Masamune’s sword as the finer of the two because it did not cut whatever that was unnecessary, innocent and underserving. The apprentice did not understand that the true winner was actually Masamune.

I like the story and the connotation of the sword that does not cut unnecessary, really paints Sephiroth in a different light especially when one takes into his account of his history in Crisis Core.
So is Sephiroth’s sword forged by that legendary smith then?

That swordsmith Masamune is not found anywhere in the Final Fantasy 7 universe, therefore I believe it is not so.
